Sunday School

Our Sunday School meets every Sunday, at the end of the Divine Liturgy. We meet in the parish rooms behind the Church hall. The children receive instruction appropriate to their age group, and participate in excursions and an annual camp.

What a great camp it was! The best one yet!

It all started on the 17th of March. All the church kids gathered at St. Nicholas at 4.00 pm. It was such a lovely sight to see, 25 kids all excited and ready for a wonderful weekend away with the church leaders and with their friends. When all the kids had arrived safely and the busses were set, we began our trip to Lyrebird Park Christian Camp. Thank God it wasn't a long drive as Lyrebird Park is just past Healesville. Two busses set off from church, one with the younger kids and one with the older kids.

All the kids were so full of energy upon arrival at the campsite, despite the bus ride. They were running around, playing games with each other, whilst waiting for the camp owner to come and give us our introduction to the weekend ahead of us. Once that was done, we went into the big conference hall and had a bite to eat and were off to chose our rooms. By the time everyone was settled in their rooms, it was time for prayer, and then bed time.

The next day, Saturday the 18th of March, proved to be a great success. We had activities planned for us all day by the camp. I'm sure we were all looking forward to what was instore for us. After breakfast and the morning prayers, which were also attended by Father Anthony who'd come up for the day, we headed outside into the beaufituil sunshine to begin our days activities. They were mainly activities which taught us very valuable lessons of trust and teamwork. Many thanks go out to the camp organisers, especially Warren and Darren, who were with us the whole day. By the end of the day, we were all exhausted but ready for anything the leaders had planned for us. We had a spiritual session with the leaders and back to activities it was. We played a couple of games where we got to know almost everyone on the camp, after the talent quest of course. After that, it was a little spare time before we were off to bed. In this spare time, we had a little "disco" in the conference room, in which we played Arabic music and danced to it. We even taught Presbyteria Clare how to do the "dabke"... That was a sight to see! Clare is a very fast learner though!

Sunday morning came and once again Father Anthony was present to celebrate the Divine Liturgy for us. After the Liturgy it was breakfast, followed by another session.

It was now time to say goodbye to Lyrebird Park and head back to Melbourne. What a wonderful weekend, both spiritual and full of fun.

Thankyou to the Leaders, Aunty Marguerite, Aunty Rita, Aunty Natalie, Presbyteria Clare and of course Father Anthony. Thanks also go out to Paul and Mona Zabakly, as they attended the whole weekend with us.

Can't wait for next year's camp...
